DMAT members consist of physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, paramedics, EMTs, pharmacists, and administrative and logistics support personnel. The members are required to maintain appropriate certifications and licensure within their discipline and within their home state. When federally activated on a deployment, these certifications and licenses are recognized as valid in all states and U.S. territories.
When deployed, DMAT members are paid per a standardized government rating based on the team position. In addition, they are protected under the Federal Torts Claims Act in the event of a malpractice claim and have job protection under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA).
